What do you know about the Holy Spirit?

He is the third person in the Trinity - He is God’s special provision for the Church … Jesus called Him ‘the gift the Father has promised’. (Acts 1)  Jesus said the Holy Spirit would be such a blessing to us that it was better for us that he went away! (John 16:7)

But his ministry is a self-effacing one.  His role is not to draw attention to himself but to point us to Jesus, as Jesus role is to give glory to the Father.

So, you can be forgiven for not knowing too much about him!

All the Apostles Creed says about Him is … ‘I believe in the Holy Spirit’

The Gloria only says …“with the Holy Spirit” … not much to go on!

The Nicene Creed adds a little more …“We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son, Who with the Father and the Son, is worshipped and glorified, Who has spoken through the Prophets”.  So, we thought it was time we looked a little deeper at the person of the Holy Spirit. 

We are familiar with the Father from the Old Testament and the Son from the New, but are we familiar with the Holy Spirit in this age of the Church? 

Whereas once God dwelt among his people in a Temple and then in the person of His Son, now he dwells within each believer!  Our access to Him is unrestricted and His presence within us, a guarantee or foretaste of the Heavenly banquet to come! He guides us into all truth, gifts us for Christian service and enables us to bring forth fruit for God’s glory!

He is our guide, counsellor, comforter and friend, He shows us Jesus and leads us to the Father - Wow!

He inspired the Prophets and the Scriptures, and baptises each believer.

He is God himself dwelling within us - let’s embrace Him!

His work FOR us.
