Deep Creek provides a wide range of great short courses. Read below for information on each of the courses, and go to the news & events page for information on course dates and times.
Alpha Course
Alpha provides an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed setting with up to ten thought-provoking weekly sessions that cover various aspects of the Christian faith. Over 13 million people worldwide have now attended an Alpha course.
A typical Alpha evening involves sharing a meal with your Alpha group and watching a video on a range of topics such as Who Is Jesus? and How Does God Guide Us? This is followed by a chance to ask your own questions and to listen to the thoughts and questions of others.
The next Alpha course is running on five Wednesday nights from February 3rd through to March 3rd. This course is being run for women. But guys, we'd be delighted to put on an Alpha course for males! Contact the office if you're interested in being part of the life-changing Alpha course.
Introducing God
Introducing God is an eight week course that provides excellent introduction to the Christian faith, sweeping across the entire message of the Bible.
Introducing God is a relaxed course, combining multi-media with informal discussion over a meal. This encourages questions and the sharing of perspectives. You're most welcome to bring a friend along with you. You can come along to the first evening and see what you think.
Marriage Enrichment Course
At Deep Creek we believe that marriage matters, that being in a great marriage is fantastic, and that marriage takes real work. So we run regular courses for any married or engaged couple who wants to build strong foundations for a healthy marriage that will last a lifetime. Why not take the time to invest in your existing, or upcoming, marriage.
The Marriage Course is for married couples and
involves DVD-based talks, time for you to talk together, and tasty suppers. Each couple's privacy is respected as there is no group discussion and no requirement to
disclose anything about their relationship to anyone else. The course costs $75 per couple (covers two manuals and suppers) and includes topics such as good sex, the art of communication and resolving conflict.
'Free-in-Christ' Course
Notwithstanding the completeness of Christ's work on the Cross and the giving of the Holy Spirit, we can sadly sometimes as followers of Jesus, not live our lives in the victory of Christ and the power of the Spirit. The reasons can be varied, but there can be emotional and spiritual baggage in our lives that has not been properly dealt with.
Over ten monthly sessions, we will look at some of the common baggage in our daily lives. Such as some types of depression, shame, guilt, dependent relationships, fear, unforgiveness, rejection, illness, controlling relationships and burn-out.
All of us are impacted, from time-to-time, by this sort of stuff. At one level, it is part and parcel of our human condition. BUT, we can live daily lives genuinely free-in-Christ.
The teaching material for these sessions is of the highest standard: DVD presentations by Christian specialist, Dr Grant Mullen and his wife, Kathryn. At the end of each night, there will be an opportunity for prayer.
The course runs on ten Tuesday nights (usually the second Tuesday of the month) starting on February 9. We begin at 7.30pm and finish by 9.00pm. There is no charge and all are welcome.
Toolbox Parenting Groups
With the right tools anyone can be a great parent! If you're looking for practical parenting strategies, inspiration, and encouragement, you're sure to be interested in a Toolbox Parenting Group. Toolbox parenting groups are a unique and fresh approach to parent education. In an informal and relaxed environment you'll be equipped with practical skills and strategies that can be immediately put to use.
The groups run for six weeks and cost
$70 for a single ($50 concession) or $110 for a couple. In Term 1 we're running an Early Years (0-6) group on six Monday nights (8.00pm - 10.00pm).
Biblical Theology Course
If you want the Bible to come alive when you read it, then you'll really benefit from taking the Biblical Theology course, run over seven nights. You'll get a much better understanding of the big story of the world's best selling book. The course uses The Drama of Scripture by Craig G Bartholomew and Michael W Goheen.
The Gospels
How well do you know the New Testament Gospels? You probably have a favourite story, or perhaps a miracle or parable. But what was the historical context in which Jesus' earthly ministry was conducted? What were the religious, social and political contexts?
It is vital to understand the historical context in bringing the messages of the Gospels into our world. In this twelve week course, we will look at the socio/cultural/political landscape of the 1st C in Palestine; focus on the miracles and parables of Jesus, the Kingdom of God, and work our way through Mark's Gospel.
The course runs on twelve Thursday nights from February 18, concluding on May 20. The seminars begin at 7.45pm sharp and finish by 9.30pm. Come along and have the Gospels come to life.
